Minit Mart and the Saenger Theater present Restitution for the 'Peanut Butter Conspiracy'! t
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With the excitement surrounding the April 26th Jimmy Buffett Concert at the Historic Saenger Theater, 16 Minit Marts in South Mississippi have joined forces with the theater to resolve once and for all, the “Peanut Butter Conspiracy” as revealed in Jimmy Buffett’s 1973 song about two poor, hungry musicians promising to pay back the Minit Mart after shoplifting peanut butter and sardines. And, in doing so, benefit the Edwards Street Fellowship Food Pantry. (For the video, please click here.)
Beginning this Saturday, visit any Minit Mart (see list below) and purchase a jar of peanut butter (or more than one, if you wish) with the Minit Mart sticker on the top. Add your name, telephone number and email address to the label and beginning Monday, April 16th, deliver it to Hattiesburg’s Saenger Theater between 8am and 5pm (M-F) or 10am and 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday. The donation period will go all week and next weekend, ending at 5pm Monday, April 23rd. On Tuesday, April 24th at 1:30pm, Amanda Bailey, granddaughter of the owner of the Minit Mart featured in the song, and who has forgiven Jimmy for pilfering the peanut butter (she says she is a big fan), will be blindfolded and enter "The Great Peanut Butter Pit" to randomly select two jars and award the donors with two tickets each to the April 26th concert.
In addition, Minit Mart will match every donated jar of peanut butter with a tin of sardines, all to be given to the Edwards Street Fellowship Food Pantry to provide a helping hand to struggling families throughout the greater Hattiesburg area. Rules and Information:
1-Go to any area Minit Mart from Saturday, April 14th until Monday, April 23rd and buy peanut butter jars with the Minit Mart sticker on top. 2-Place your Name, Telephone and Email on the label. 3-Deliver the jar(s) to Hattiesburg’s Saenger Theater (201 Forrest St.) beginning Monday, April 16th until 5pm on Monday, April 23rd. 4-No limit on the number of jars you donate, just make sure your information is on the Minit Mart label of each jar. 5-Only peanut butter jars from Minit Mart with label are eligible. 6-Minit Mart will match a can of sardines with each jar of peanut butter for donation to the food pantry. 7-Other canned food donations will be accepted and will go to Edwards Street Fellowship Food Pantry. 8-The Drawing will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday, April 24th at the Saenger Theater.
