Center for Gifted Studies to host Spring Day of Sharing for Teachers March 9

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The spring 2018 Day of Sharing for Teachers of the Gifted will be held Friday, March 9 on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi. Sponsored by Southern Miss’s Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies, this event is designed to educate teachers on current curriculum and instructional issues in gifted education.
Guest speakers and presenters for the Day of Sharing include the following:
*Jen Cornett, gifted education specialist for the Mississippi Department of Education, will give a presentation that includes ideas for gifted programming and organization based on the Outcomes for Gifted Education Programs 2017
*Carol Paola, executive director for Mississippi Association of Gifted Children (MAGC), will discuss the benefits of joining MAGC, as well as classroom resources for teachers, scholarship opportunities for students, and other membership benefits.
*Dr. Heather Houston and Marla Freitag of the Karnes Center for Gifted Studies will address the topic of underserved gifted populations, along with strategies for addressing their needs in the gifted classroom.
Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from fellow teachers on instructional ideas or activities that have been successful with their gifted learners. Time for Sharing will include a poster exhibit that includes mini-units, activities, and more.
Teachers of the gifted, general education teachers, and administrators are encouraged to attend. CEUs (0.5) will be offered for $25. To register to attend, visit www.usm.edu/karnes-gifted.
