City responds to La Fiesta Brava shooting
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg police responded to a shooting behind La Fiesta Brava on US Highway 49 Friday night. Six people were shot according to HPD and none of them sustained life threatening injuries.
The mayor says the city will continue to host night life for visitors but not for those who threaten the safety and quality of life for residents.
"Violent crime is not something we are going to tolerate. Whether its at an apartment, a restaurant or somewhere else. We are not going to tolerate that. While we welcome people into our town, we do not welcome that kind of violence," said Mayor Barker.
He said a criminal mentality can start at a young age and its crucial for people to get involved with the youth of Hattiesburg.
“We’re starting a mentor program, something we campaigned on. We’re going to be rolling that our in the next month or two. We encourage people to ask themselves am I willing to be apart of the solution and not just apart of the conversation,”
