Petal High students use classroom skills to help rebuild house
PETAL, Miss. - Petal High School students volunteered to help rebuild a house with R3SM this week.
PHS second year Construction Technology students used school taught techniques to reconstruct a house on Highway 42.
“Specifically they learned how to build a house from the ground up from flooring systems, to walls and ceilings, from roofing systems straight up." said Construction Technology teacher, Weston Hill.
January's EF-3 destroyed a home of a couple, which temporarily displaced them in two different cities. However, despite the heat, PHS students said they're glad to use what they've learned in the classroom to give back to the community.
“It means a lot to me because I helped that person, I helped that family. You know, I helped out, I volunteered for this so it means a lot. I feel like I was put on this earth to do it. It feels like my calling I love it.” said senior student, Joshua Leigh Keer.
Hill said he would like to see his students use their skills and experience to make a difference.
