Seminary man arrested for murder

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - One man was arrested Saturday morning for murder.

Jones County deputies said Matthew Phillips, 25, of Seminary, and Joseph Stringer, 40 were drinking heavily Friday evening on Kevin Drive in the Moselle area.

Deputies said they were arguing over a flashlight that Stringer had reportedly stole from Phillips. A witness went inside the residence and saw that Stringer had been stabbed. Stringer was pronounced dead when officers arrived on scene.

Phillips fled the location and was found a few hours later.

Phillips is being charged with first degree murder.
