USM football players, Christian Services provide Thanksgiving meals

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - It's rivalry week and Southern Miss has a big game Friday that will determine if they will be bowl eligible or not.

But, the team dedicated sometime Wednesday to give locals a Thanksgiving dinner.

Community relations director, Vanessa Henson said, "They allow the diners to sit down and they bring them the food. They setup up the plates for them. They put the utensils together. And they do a lot of interacting afterwards, which the diners always love."

This is beneficial for the players, Christian Services, and locals. "I know for a lot of our diners, they only get to see them on the field, or in the newspapers, or on TV. But, they get to see that they do have big hearts on and off the field. So, I think it's a beautiful time for everyone to come together," said Henson.

"It matters because we're not just football players. We want to be able to go out and help the community. People usually hold us to a higher standard because of the role we play. We're role models. So, being able to help the community is definitely a big part of what we have to do as our part," said center, Cameron Tom.

If you are interested on cheering on the team for the very last time this season, you can see them play at The Rock at 3 p.m.
