Game of the Week: Tylertown vs. West Marion

MARION COUNTY, Miss. - The West Marion Trojans (8-2) will host their final regular season home game against the Tylertown Chiefs (9-0).

Head coach Brad Duncan said, "Our guys are going to step up for a challenge. It's a big district game. A lot of things could be happening with this win."

  • If the Trojans beat the Chiefs by ten or more points, they would be in first place

  • If the Trojans win between 5-9 points, they would be in second place

  • If the Trojans win by less than five points or loses, they would finish in third place

"It's a big one man. It's one I really want to pull off and I really feel comfortable coming here to play more than going up there to play, because the environment here, the fans here kicks me a whole 'nother level when I play here," said strong safety, Braxton Smith.

Smith was an All-State defensive back last year and he helps his teammates anyway he can.

Wide receiver, Damien Johnson said, "With Braxton, he's one of the best press defensive backs out here. Me and him, we go one-on-one every day and it just makes it easier for me."

Johnson leads the team in catches, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions.

Johnson thinks it's hard for teams to stop his offense.

"I don't think it's possible because if I'm not open, I know there's three other receivers. One of them is going to be open because we all have great ability and we just find a way to get the ball," said Johnson.

Kickoff will be Friday at 7 p.m. at West Marion High School.
