LSU defeated USM, 45-10

BATON ROUGE, LA. - Southern Miss suffered a 45-10 loss Saturday against LSU.

Even though LSU didn't have their 2015 All-American running back, Leonard Fournette playing in the game, the Golden Eagles still had a tough time defending their offense.

Head coach, Jay Hopson said, "I thought we played well the first half. We limited big plays. I thought we moved the ball well on offense, and was actually 10-10 at half."

Southern Miss turned the ball over early in the second half, and LSU quickly gained momentum and had it for the rest of the game.

Linebacker, Elijah Parker said, "Eyes were not on the right target and big plays happened."

"There were just a pretty consistent defense. But their athleticism, their size and their speed, they don't need to do too much," said quarterback, Nick Mullens.

Some of the players believe because the team played so well in the first half, they can compete with anyone.

"If we can play like that, we can win every ball game," said Parker.

Wide receiver, Allenzae Staggers said, "We can be great. Can't nobody stop us really. The only people that can stop us is ourselves."

"We're good enough to win these next five games. But, we're also bad enough to lose these five games. It's really just a matter of putting the hammer down, focusing on the details. We really got to put our foot on the gas and go to work," said Mullens.

Southern Miss has a bye week this week and will look to regroup after this tough loss.
