USM defeats UTEP, 34-7

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss traveled to El Paso, TX over the weekend and defeated the UTEP Miners, 34-7.
Head coach, Jay Hopson was impressed by his team's performance.
"I thought we tackled better this week. I thought we were a little bit crisper offensively, and I thought overall just a better executed game," said Hopson.
"I thought Nick (Mullens) did a great job. You know Nick directs our offense. He's got a couple new receivers and that timing is coming down. It's getting better and better each week. But I thought he and D.J. (Thompson) made some critical catches and connections. And I thought Allenzae's (Staggers) shot up the middle was a great throw and catch, and just really gave us a charge," said Hopson.
Southern Miss’s next game will be at home Saturday at 6.p.m. against Rice.
