Laurel police receive calls of clown spotting

LAUREL, Miss. - The Laurel Police Department has received calls that indicate that persons unknown are appearing in public areas wearing clown costumes and possibly driving a black van.

Authorities said these types of complaints have been appearing all over the United States with many of the reports being proven as hoaxes

Police said, "It also appears that these reports are exacerbated by social media posts. As with any suspicious activity, LPD request that we be notified immediately so that the legality of the activity can be determined."

LPD is conducting regular checks on public areas to ensure the safety of citizens.
