Bobcats can't wait for the new season

ELLISVILLE, Miss. - The Jones County Junior College Bobcats took the field in their jersey Tuesday for media day.

The Bobcats did not have the best season last year, as they were 2-7.

But, newly hired head coach, Steve Buckley is hoping to turn things around.

Buckley said "we want to handle ourselves with class and do the right thing at the right time and it starts with character. When we go in high schools and start recruiting kids, the first thing that we want to know about is what kind of kids are they. And we've got good kids. They've been responsible, very accountable, they've been here for summer school. So we're just excited about that mindset going into it. If you do that off the field, it carries over on the field."

The players are also looking forward to the new season.

Linebacker, Cannon Gibbs said, "It's awesome being a part of this era and ever since he's came in, he's gotten everything revamped and rebooted. Whether you're a sophomore or a freshman, we've all bought into the same thing."

Defensive back, Javien Hamilton said, "We gelling good. Coach Buckley brought in a great staff and brought in some young players. But, we're going to compete and we just got to get better from it."

The Bobcats have four D-1 commits.

Javien Hamilton and defensive lineman, Markel Winters have committed to play for Ole Miss. Receiver, Trevor Terry committed to Southern Miss. And placekicker, Brady Farlow committed to Louisiana Tech.

The Bobcats' first game is set for September 1, at home, against East Mississippi.
