HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) stopped by the Train Depot Tuesday to hold a public forum about its Statewide Transportation Program (STIP).
Residents were able to provide feedback and ask questions about recent infrastructure updates.
"Well I mean this is the public's infrastructure and this is the roads they drive on...it is important to take an active role in your community" said MDOT 6th District Engineer Kelly Castleberry.
The STIP program is a four-year listing of planned statewide transportation improvements approved by the Federal Highways Administration and the Federal Transit Administration.
One important local project on the STIP is the Evelyn Gandy I-59 intersection to be done in fiscal year 2018.
"There are a lot of local projects like bikeways, and pedestrian pathways" said Castleberry.
Castleberry said, "Look at the transportation planned for your community, because this is what you are going to be using for the future."
MDOT also stopped in D'Iberville and Jackson earlier this week to gain feedback from the surrounding communities.
