JONES COUNTY, Miss. - The following is a press release from the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.
Two vehicles collided Wednesday on Highway 15 South at Will Young Road with one driver sustaining injuries. At around 1:45PM, units from Glade and Ovett Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle accident involving a white work truck and a white F-150.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the F-150 in the middle of the highway with extensive damage to the front-end, and a white work truck on the shoulder of the highway turned on its left side.
According to reports, the work truck was traveling south on the highway and was turning left onto a dirt road when the F-150, which was traveling north, topped a hill and collided with the work truck.
The force of the impact caused the work truck to roll onto its driver's side, and the F-150 turned completely around, facing the direction from which it came.
The driver of the F-150 sustained moderate injuries and was transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.
The driver of the work truck appeared to be uninjured. Both lanes of traffic were closed for about an hour so that rescue crews and tow-truck personnel could clear the scene.
Rescue personnel on scene included Glade and Ovett Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ ambulance, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna.
Fire apparatus included Glade Heavy Rescue, Glade Brush, and Ovett Rescue. Several firefighters also arrived in their personal vehicles.
