FEMA closes disaster recovery centers

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. - The disaster recover centers all over the state of Mississippi that were affected by the March 9 floods are closing this week.

Since the centers opened FEMA has received 4,168 registrations and approved nearly $6.4 million in grants.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved more than $4.6 million in low-interest loans to homeowners and renters as well as businesses.

FEMA spokesman, Kurt Pickering said, "When the volumes drop low enough, it becomes doable if you will to handle those things on a case by case basis, so all that's happened is we reached that point in this recovery."

FEMA has calculated that survivors have made 2,397 visits to disaster recovery centers.

"We can get an arrangement made to mail it, or fax it, or email it, there is always a way" added Pickering.
