Lamar county passes moratorium on multi-family dwellings

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - The Lamar county Board of Supervisors passed a moratorium on multi-family dwellings Thursday.
The board says they are not stifling grown, but ensuring the current citizens are receiving services to the full potential, especially in the school district.
Board Supervisor Philip Carlisle mentioned that the county doubled in size in the last 15 to 20 years and a lot has contributed to multi-family housing.
"We do not have a big problem with it, but what happens when that occurs is that your school district is burdened by it" said Carlisle.
Lamar County Superintendent Tess Smith said, "I appreciate the board of supervisors looking out for our schools. In an area that is seeing a lot of growth, we all need to be responsible and make sure that we are prepared with proper oversight in place."
The board is reviewing a comprehensive review plan to accommodate current families and those in the future.
