HFD and HPD will play a wheelchair basketball game against USM's Golden Eagle wheelchair basketb
Hattiesburg, Miss. - USM’s Golden Eagle wheelchair basketball team has been based out of the Gulfport campus for the last five years and this summer they will be moving to the Hattiesburg campus.
But something has sparked the basketball player’s mind's recently.
Kevin Galloway, USM wheelchair basketball player said, "Get crossed over by a person in a wheelchair and you'll be surprised. Watch them shoot a long three over your head and you'll be surprised. They're just as good. They want to win just as bad as anybody else."
And one important city official wants to challenge USM's Golden Eagle wheelchair basketball team.
Sylvester Crosby, USM wheelchair basketball player said, "I was offered a challenge from Mayor Johnny DuPree that he would have the Hattiesburg Fire Department and Police Department to challenge us to a game of wheelchair basketball. The prediction is we're guaranteed to win. A Joe Naismith guarantee to win."
The Golden Eagle wheelchair basketball team will play the Hattiesburg Fire Department and the Police Department separately to determine who has city bragging rights.
No date has been officially set, but the games will be held at USM's Payne Center in the next couple of months.
