JCJC’s Irby named MACJC Baseball Player of the Week

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College’s Mason Irby has been named the MACJC Baseball Player of the Week.

Irby, a sophomore rightfielder from Southeast Lauderdale, went 9-for-14 in four games with two home runs, nine RBIs and four runs scored as the Bobcats went 4-0 during the week.

The left-handed hitter was 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs in a 27-5 win over Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana). In a 14-0 win over BRCC, he was 3-for-3 with an RBI. In a 3-0 win over Mineral Area College (Missouri), he was 1-for-3 and in an 8-4 victory over MAC, he was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Irby is currently hitting .621, which leads the MACJC and ranks third in NJCAA Division II.

Irby, who was named an NJCAA Division II All-American as a catcher last year, has already signed with Southern Miss.

Irby and the Bobcats, 8-0, will take on Jefferson Davis Community College (Alabama) in a noon doubleheader on Thursday in Brewton, Alabama.
