The Golden Eagles are now at .500 in conference play

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss hosted UTSA on a special Saturday night as the Golden Eagle community honored former Southern Miss basketball player and NBA standout, Clarence Weatherspoon.

Head coach, Doc Sadler said, "Days like this are special. Not just necessarily for Clarence, but for all of his teammates and all the administration. That's what a day like this gets, is you get all those people back."

With a lot of people in the coliseum for this special night, the Golden Eagles took it up a notch and had a fast start in the first half, leading them to a 19-9 run and a 35-29 lead at halftime.

Guard, Kourtlin Jackson said, "They kind of sped us up a little bit. It took us a while. I mean we jumped out on them a little bit. I feel like we handled their pressure."

Ryan Bowie was carrying the Roadrunners in the first half. But in the second, the Golden Eagles took him out the game and were scoring at will...knocking down 14 three-pointers, while maintaining a 50 percent shooting performance from beyond the arc.

Forward, Raheem Watts said, "When you shooting it like that from beyond the line, it gets us going, they get into it. And the intensity and energy level just goes through the roof and then that's where we play at our best."

The Golden Eagles shot a season high from three-point land and had a season high in total points scored in one game. The Golden Eagles also recorded several other season high statistics, but there were just too many to name in this game.

Guard, Khari Price said, “I think we're just starting to really jell, starting to know where each other is going to be at in certain points of the game. I think we're starting to come together at the right time."

Southern Miss's 86-70 win against UTSA Saturday night was a night to remember for Golden Eagle fans. The Golden Eagles finished the game with several season high statistics are now .500 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles’ next game is Thursday at North Texas.
