Biloxi, MS --- The first Hurricane Blitz was completed on June 12, but the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) efforts to help further prepare Gulf Coast residents for hurricane season are far from over. In addition to completing a successful Contraflow Drill on I-59 this week, MDOT will continue hurricane preparation by hosting a series of Hurricane Blitzes at the Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi in June, July and August.
MDOT representatives will be handing out the new 2015 Hurricane Evacuation Guide and other helpful preparation materials and checklists at each blitz. The 2015 Hurricane Evacuation Guide features loads of vital information, from evacuation maps, suggested evacuation routes and contraflow information, to critical contact information from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, American Red Cross, MEMA and DOTs and Highway Patrols in bordering states. Other important information such as shelters for you and your pets, 211 MS and lodging can also be found in the Hurricane Evacuation Guide.
“MDOT is committed to keeping the citizens of Mississippi prepared and safe,” said Transportation Commissioner Tom King. “The Hurricane Evacuation Guide can be a lifeline for residents during a hurricane and I encourage everyone to have a plan ready before the storm.”
Each blitz will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates at the Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi:
Saturday, June 27
Saturday, July 18
Friday, July 31
Friday, August 7
