MDOT Wants Summer Travelers to be Prepared
Jackson, MS — The arrival of summer means an increase in both temperatures and the number of cars on the road. As vacationers begin stuffing their suitcases with sunscreen and swim trunks, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to offer some tips for long-distance drivers during the coming weeks.
When making plans for a summer road trip preparing your vehicle beforehand is just as important as visiting all the best attractions when you reach your destination. Before you pack up and head out, you should have your vehicle checked thoroughly. Here are a few pre-trip vehicle checks MDOT suggests:
Check tires for tread wear and proper pressure
Make sure belts and hoses are in good shape
Check your battery
Replace your windshield wiper blades
Check all brake and head lights
Make sure your air conditioning is ready for the heat
Check amount and quality of oil and antifreeze
MDOT also recommends you equip your vehicle with a first aid kit, flashlight and basic repair tools. It is also smart to bring along is a spare car key to keep in a safe place, because you never know when it may come in handy!
The most important thing is to be safe and have fun this summer. For more summer travel tips visit MDOTtraffic.com.
