Jones County Woman Charged With Felonious Child Abuse
HATTIESBURG, MISS. - The Jones County Sheriff's Department arrested 26-year-old Santangela Turner on Monday after they received a referral packet from the Child Protectives Services stating reports of abuse. According to the report, Turner sent text messages to the complainant stating she chocked the 3-month-old infant with a car charger and left the baby in woods next to the apartment complex where she lived. Turner also sent pictures of the baby with a white cord wrapped around the baby's neck, and another picture shows the baby lying on her back with Turner holding a knife to the baby's neck. Turner does not have any criminal history, and Tuesday she made her initial court appearance. The judge sent Turner's bond at 10,000 dollars and ordered her to stay away from children altogether, including her own two kids. Turner's family said in the courtroom that she suffers from postpartum depression, and is currently seeking help. Turner and law enforcement both refused to comment on the case after today's initial appearance.
