Karen is moving toward the north-northwest near 12 mph…19 km/h. A turn toward the north and a decrease in forward speed are expected during the next 48 hours. On the forecast track…the center of Karen is expected to be near the coast within the Hurricane Watch area on Saturday.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is alerting residents and tourists along the gulf coast to be aware. There are several events and festivals scheduled for the coast this weekend including Cruising the Coast.

A HURRICANE WATCH MEANS THAT HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE SPECIFIED AREAS. A TROPICAL STORM WATCH MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE SPECIFIED AREAS. ALL PERSONS IN THE WATCH AREAS SHOULD REVIEW THEIR PREPAREDNESS PLAN AND BE READY TO IMPLEMENT IT SHOULD A WARNING BE ISSUED FOR THEIR AREA.
